change

is good, right?

I thought it was time for a little change on this little bit of the world wide web that I call home... I made a new header - you like? Thanks to elmobong for making me think about it and inspiring me to finally do it. It's more what I wanted the first time around, but I didn't have the picture at the time...

This is one that I took in Chambly, Quebec last fall on my bike trip there... read about it here... you can even see the image in its original form...

Anyway, I'll be working out the kinks over the next little while, but I just don't feel like dealing with all the little things right now... so this will have to do. I'm hoping for a complete overhaul, but blogger doesn't make it easy... if I completely change my template I'll lose all of my link and stuff in the sidebars... and who wants to re-type all of that?!? So, I'll see what I can sort out.

In the meantime, enjoy, at the least, the new masthead... I think it's pretty cool... what do you think?

yup, i joined...

i feel like the newby in a cult. i finally joined facebook. all these people have been going on about it for ages... i kept saying there was no way i was going to join yet another personal profile messenger type thing... they eat up your time and you end up not having a life... but the last straw was today... and so, i'm out there - again - in cyberspace. i never use my "myspace" and figured that maybe the same would end up happening with facebook, but it's a much better program.

i'm really liking it so far and have found lots of old friends that i haven't talked to in years. i'm even part of a group for my elementary school!!! anyway, i'm working on getting lots of photos up there... i love that i can upload directly from my iPhoto program... awesome! and it's so much faster than so many album sites out there... now i just need to get everyone i know to join! argh! see? i've been sucked in!!! and you! yes, you. you know who you are... it's all your fault!

in other news, this blog has seen over 4000 visitors since late november 2006! yay! and the country list continues to grow...

my hand is healing VERY well... for those of you concerned... thank you for all the well-wishes.

guess that's it for updates... nothing terribly interesting happened today. a bunch of kids got caught smoking on the roof of the school... but that's pretty normal... hopefully i'll have something interesting for you soon... as promised, and weather permitting, we can take another walk together tomorrow! ciao!

i've been tagged...again...

this tagging business can be annoying, but oddly i couldn't stop thinking about this one...

the top five songs i would play at my own funeral and though it is rather morbid... it's also kind of fun...

as kassandra (who tagged me) insinuated, the cure makes the top of the list. i actually thought of listing the entire album 'disintegration' but i'll settle for this (which isn't even from that album):

the cure - the funeral party. partly because of the title, but there are other reasons that i would rather not get in to here... just take it at face value... oh, and the above video is not approved by the cure, but made by some guy who posted it on youtube...thanks, or i never would've found this song to play here!

number 2:

the smashing pumpkins - 1979. from a great time in my life...oh to be young again... plus it has great bass, a great beat, and you can all dance and sing along!

number 3:

the doves - there goes the fear. why? well, really it's just one of my favourite songs... it helps remind me to live every second of my life like it's my last...

number 4:

U2 - One. need i say more?

number 5:

Longpigs - On and On. again, one of my favourite songs. i can't really say why...it's love and hate, and life and death, and everything that you don't want to face.

there's the top five. also on my list... i'd have to dj the whole party, you see... i couldn't leave that up to anyone else... except maybe kassandra ;) in no particular order:
Dido - life for rent, sand in my shoes;
Ash - walking barefoot;
Counting Crows - 'round here;
Gary Jules - mad world;
A-Ha - the sun always shines on TV;
Rolling Stones - paint it black, she's a rainbow, ruby tuesday;
Belle and Sebastian - get me away from here i'm dying, the boy with the arab strap, lazy line painter jane, this is just a modern rock song...;
Jean Leloup - i lost my baby;
Abba - chiquitita;
Oasis - wonderwall, champagne supernova;
Rialto - perfect day (no, not the lou reed version);
the Arcade Fire - rebellion (lies);
Billy Idol - dancing with myself, mony mony;
Six by Seven - stop the world;
Coldplay - parachutes, yellow, the scientist, in my place, everything's not lost;
Smashing Pumpkins - disarm, landslide, tonight tonight, bullet with butterfly wings;
U2 - kite, walk on, wild honey, stuck in a moment, all i want is you, sunday bloody sunday, new year's day...;
Johnny Cash - i walk the line, a boy named sue, folsom prison blues, daddy sang bass;
the Cure - disintegration (the whole album, and specifically the song), three imaginary boys (yes, the album...), plastic passion, just like heaven, inbetween days, close to me, the upstairs room, play for today, M, the exploding boy... i think you get the point... my funeral would not be without the cure... and lots of it!

okay, i have to stop now... the list would just go on and on until i'd listed my entire play list here... you get the point. at least you all know what i have on my ipod shuffle now!!!

now, who will i tag??? ... how 'bout kimbirdy, stranger, and awesomebringer.

whaddya think?

well, i think it's done.

how do you like the new look?

it took longer than i thought/was hoping it would, but i think it's worth it. some changes that i've made:
  • left side column
  • new colours all around
  • right sidebar background image
  • new header *designed by me
  • lots of new links
  • labels (in a cool label cloud)
well, when i look at it like that it's really not that much, but it took a long time... guess i forgot most of what "they" taught me in uni about coding... but with the help of google i managed to find all kinds of great tips online.

i know it's not all super stream-lined and curvy like my old template, i really liked the rounded corners, but it's really more trouble than it's worth, but maybe i'll do it eventually... for now i'm happy with what i've got... and i hope you are too.

let me know what you think... please, don't be shy about it... is it too dark? hard to see? is it eye-catching? what do you think of the graphics? PLEASE tell me!!! i worked on it pretty hard and feed back is always a good thing... promise to post something interesting tomorrow... then it's off to Seoul for the weekend, so no posting, but next week is bound to be full of goodies... in the meantime, let me know what you think of the new look!

changes, part two

well, things are coming together... it'll be a while still until everything is looking the way i really want it to, but i finally found a way to make my regular template (which i love) into a three column... i just wouldn't have been happy with anything else. and thanks to the incredible hans of beautiful beta i have successfully edited the style sheet and html code all on my own! THANKS HANS! there are a few tweaks necessary, and hopefully i'll have them figured out soon... until then, bear with me! :)

changes

as you may have noticed, i am making some changes to my blog... bear with me while i get this done... i was desperate for a three column page, and have finally found a template, but it'll take me a few days to get everything up to speed... thanks for understanding!

i got "tagged"

... didn't even know you could play tag on the internet, but apparently, i'm "it"...

this is a 'meme' which according to quixtarBlog is: "A blog meme is a type of Internet meme that requires active participation by the blogger and rarely traces back to an originating source. It's often a series of questions that a blogger answers to share some personal perspective or experience on random topics."

basically it means answer the damn questions and pass it on... like those annoying emails you get... i guess you don't have to answer, but it'd be fun if you did... i've tagged a couple of bloggers at the bottom of this post... if you can actually get through the whole thing!!!

Do you like the look and contents of your blog?
In general, I like the look of my blog, but there are some changes that I would make, if only I could figure out how to crack the code in the “new blogger beta”. I’m not finding it so easy to make custom changes to the code.
As for content – for the most part, yes. I think that I tend to ramble on at times, and sometimes I don’t have that much to say, but pictures are worth a thousand words, right? So I’ve always got an extra thousand or so for every post. Mostly this blog is for me to share my experiences in life, so I find it interesting – it is, after all, my life.

Does your family know about your blog?
Ya. My mom doesn’t have a computer, and my dad never reads it – least that’s what he tells me – not sure if my brother or anyone else in the fam’ is reading or not…

Can you tell your friends about your blog? Do you consider it a private thing?
This is the best way for me to let my friends know how I’m doing here in SK. Whether they’re reading or not is another matter. This is definitely not a private thing – otherwise it wouldn’t be in the public sphere… would it?

Do you read the blogs of those who comment on your blog? Or do you try and discover new blogs?
I read the blogs of people who post comments, but there aren’t very many random comments from people with blogs. I am always looking for new blogs to read and search out ones that interest me when I have time.

Did your blog positively affect your mind? Give an example...
ummm…maybe. I’ve always kept a journal, so the blog isn’t much different in an “affect your mind” kind of way… just that other people read it.

What does the number of visitors to your blog mean? Do you have a traffic counter?
I just got a traffic counter last week and have been borderline psychotic in checking who is reading my blog… well, as much as I can check where they’re from (Canada, US, Greece, Australia, France, Japan, Singapore, Romania(?!), what browser they use (other (?), IE, Firefox), their OS, where they were referred from, etc… the number isn’t really that important (462 hits and 216 visitors since nov. 16th !!!!) okay, maybe I like seeing that people are reading. It stems from the disappointment of the listeners of my college radio show – a big fat 0 most of the time. It made me crave the attentions of the masses… okay, whatever, this is crap – I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE READ AND COMMENT!!!!

Do you imagine what other bloggers look like?
Never really thought about it before in a physical sense. I think I more imagine their personalities.

Do you think blogging has any real benefits?
Depends what you mean by “benefits” – for the blogger I think it does – as an outlet, a means of communicating with people you would never otherwise communicate with (see traffic counter – Romania?? Who is reading from Romania, Singapore, etc??) it’s kind of crazy for me to think that there are people from all over the world that I am reaching in my own little way. For the readers – I think it does as well, people learning new things, seeing the world in a different way. So, I guess ya, I think blogging has “real” benefits.

Do you think that the blogosphere is a stand alone world community separated from the real world?
Sort of. I mean, everyone has their own identity in the blogosphere, and it doesn’t have to be the same as the one in their “real” lives. You can be anything you want without having to worry about people judging you. I don’t mean this in a creepy pedophilia kind of way, just in a more “open, honest about yourself” kind of way.

Do some political blogs scare you? Do you avoid them?
Bah. Don’t really care either way. We need to worry about the mass media conglomerates more than individuals and their blogs.

Do you think that criticizing your blog is useful?
Not really. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

Have you ever thought about what would happen to your blog if you died?
Uh, no… hopefully it would live on in cyberspace… I’ll have to figure out how to post from the after life though…

Which blogger has had the greatest impression on you?
What kind of impression are we talking about here? some blogs are good for their wit, their writing, their voices; others are good for their photos or content, I don’t think I can pick just one. The ones I read regularly are listed to the right, and those are the ones I like.

Which blogger do you think is the most similar to you?
Ha! None. No one can ever be like me!!! lol… just kidding, not sure really… I’d say coulda woulda shoulda, but she’s way cooler than I am…

Name a song you want to listen to.
Uh, at the mo’ anything other than the Korean Sunkist lemonade song!!!

Tag some people.
coulda woulda shoulda, back in the motherland , Stranger in a strange land, liza in cymru… and whoever else feels like it.
